Before the Moose played the rest of their seven-game road trip, one player saw himself travel to Vancouver to catch part of the 2010 Winter Olympics in person. Forward Sergei Shirokov was invited by the Russian Hockey Federation to watch some of the hockey, including Russia’s 4-2 win over the Czech Republic during the round robin.

The Week That Was

The Manitoba Moose and Norfolk Admirals faced off for the first time ever, just over eight years after the Moose entered the AHL from the now-defunct International Hockey League (IHL). The Ads made their presence felt early into their first visit to the MTS Centre, as former Brandon Wheat King Ryan Craig scored off a rebound just 1:29 in to give his team a 1-0 lead. Just past the halfway mark of the first, Matt McCue one-timed Tommy Maxwell’s pass from behind the net to even up the game at one. For those keeping track, this was the first goal and points scored by the fourth line this season, a period of 15 games. The score stayed even until the early stages of the third, when Brandon Bochenski converted on the power play to put the Admirals up for good. Paul Szczechura added an empty-netter late in the game to give Norfolk a 3-1 win over Manitoba.

Moose Update For The Week of 09/29/09 – 10/03/09

So here I am on my birthday, writing on this website for lord knows what reason instead of celebrating turning one day older, yet feeling one year older. Am I crazy? Insane? Cuckoo For Cocoa Puffs? All of the above? Who knows. The truth of the matter is I was going to do this yesterday, but other things got in the way…and by other things, I mean my laziness.

Anyway…

Since 2003, I’ve done a weekly summary of sorts (mostly stats-based) on the Manitoba Moose at Hockey’s Future Vancouver Canucks message board. This was initially done in tandem with my work on the old Thunderpuck website GoCanucks (which had a Moose section called MooseView), then became a lone venture once that website folded. Now I’m doing this (hopefully) weekly write-up on The Mattress Line as a compliment to the update provided at HFBoards. This week, we’ll focus on the week of September 27, 2009 to October 3, 2009.
